Matt Hunter joined Temple’s Religious Studies Department in Fall 2002 to study religion in America. He graduated from Messiah College in 1997 with a B.A. in Christian Ministry. Matt’s studies focus on American civil religion and sacred space.
Matt is a Graduate Teaching Fellow for the Center for the Humanities and is teaching a course in American Sacred Space this spring. The purpose of the class is to inspire critical thinking among students about how Americans construct their identity through constructing and sacralizing religious, national, and popular spaces and places. It is crosslisted between Religious Studies, American Studies and Geography and Urban Studies.
Matt looks forward to fostering a sense of community in the classroom with lively critical discussion. At home in Lansdowne, he enjoys taking walks with his wife Beth, their son Asher, and dog, Gandolf.
