Eligible Post-65 (Medicare) Retiree Benefits

Temple University offers medical and prescription drug coverage to Medicare-eligible retirees, as outlined on our Retiree Home page.  There are no additional premiums paid to Temple University for your medical or prescription drug coverage.  If you are Medicare-eligible, you MUST enroll in Medicare Part A and Part B.

Medical Benefits

If you are eligible for retiree benefits and on Medicare, Temple University offers a 65 Special Program through Independence Blue Cross. This program coordinates with your Medicare Part A and Part B coverage to provide reimbursement for deductibles, coinsurance and some other expenses not covered by Medicare.  For a full description of Covered Expenses, and any Exclusions, click the link below, “65 Special Booklet”.  If you have other questions about your benefits please contact the Benefits Department at 215-926-2270.  If you have benefit design and coverage questions, contact Independence Blue Cross at 1-800-ASK-BLUE (1-800-275-2583).

The Prescription Drug plan offered by Temple University includes Medicare Part D coverage and supplementary coverage for the “gaps” that Medicare does not cover.  You do not have to enroll in Medicare Part D yourself; the entire process is handled for eligible retirees by Temple University.

You pay 10% of the cost of generic drugs, 20% of the cost of preferred brand name drugs and 30% of the cost of non-preferred brand name drugs.
