Paper

As an advisor, we give students quite a bit of paper once they have completed their schedules. I would
recommend that we suspend giving non-essential papers to students (copies of their rosters, etc.) and
gently "forcing" them to view their rosters on OWLnet.

Reuse "Banner sheets" from front of documents that are printed, instead of tossing them in the recyle bin

My suggestion is to stop printing the Temple Times. Most employee`s receive it at home. I know that in
my department we all receive it at home but then 60 of them are delivered to the office. I`ve requested
the office delivery be stopped but it hasn`t as of yet. What may be even more efficient is to stop
printing it all together and employees can view it online if they want.

avoid unwanted printing and put limit on how much one should be printing

Do not allow professors to hand out paper copies of lecture notes to EVERY student during EVERY class.
It is very generous and thoughtful for a professor to provide us students with detailed and complete
lecture notes, however it would be better suited for many reasons 1. we would eliminate the cutting down
of trees and we all know that most paper in Philadelphia is rarely recycled, at least where I have seen in
my four years here. 2 we wouldn`t have to carry around so many papers and have them getting lost or
misplaced or destroyed. 3. it would cost nothing to post notes on blackboard and it costs `something` to
print four page notes to thirty students every class. There`s about fifteen weeks in which a professor
may hand these notes out which are four pages long and going to thirty students. 4pagesx30students
=120pages. 2classes/week x 15weeks= 30classes. 30classes x 120pages/class= THREE THOUSAND SIX
HUNDRED PAGES OF PAPER, PER PROFESSOR (given they have a class of about thirty and hand
out an average of four pages per class), PER SEMESTER. Now think about how many professors in the
University may hand out 3,600 pages (even more or less) of paper per semester, then put that in your
pipe and improve efficiency. I am not saying that professors cannot hand out things in class, however
there must be a better way for if the professor is typing the notes which she or he will soon print, why can
the not just post them to blackboard. If a student does not own a computer, they can print their own copy
to take home with them but I would imagine most Temple students have access to a computer in their
homes. I hope you`ve enjoyed my suggestion and hope too that maybe you`ll consider my suggestion.

switch all computers to print double-sided, BLACK`n`WHITE as their `default` setting. This will save paper
- save money and trees. If IT states this is already done, please check again. Double-sided, black-and-
white as default. Some labs in the new ALter Hall are set for one-sided, color.

Temple should mandate that all course materials be on blackboard only. No departments/faculty should
be printing and copying course materials. In addition, the only materials that should be printed are
exams/quizzes and it should be done 2-sided. The printing of course materials wastes paper, ink, staples,
money, and time.

We use banner sheets as good scrap paper.(banner sheets are the cover sheet printed with your name
when printing to a shared printer/copier)OR eliminate the banner sheet altogether.I use the scrap for
printing emails or documents that will not be official record.

Stop printing the Guide to Registration for Summer and Fall classes and Spring classes would be a great
cost savings to the University. You have to look at the online Temple schedule of classes for the CRN,
times, section etc. because that information is not in the Guide to Registration. We can refer students to
the online schedule. Most students do not use the Guide to Registration because of the limiited
information.

Provide students with a free option to scan documents, books, textbooks, etc., as opposed to having to
copy everything. The scanner could include an option to e-mail the scanned documents, etc., to the
student`s e-mail. This will save Temple money on paper and toner and is also environmentally-friendly.

The University could suggest or require that all Programs, Centers, and Departments reduce the margin
requirement from 1.25 inches standard to .75 inch. A study conducted by the Penn State Green Destiny
Council found that this "would result in average paper savings of 4.75 percent." Kim WilsonAssociate

require duplex printing on all hand outs, tests, and other papers. allow students to submit duplex printed

No more receipts at the SAC, no one keeps them and you can get your diamond dollar balance online

Offer Faculty workshops to familiarize all with on-line grading, thus encouraging on-line assignments and
the reduction of paper.

Suggestion
Have the end of semester course evaluations sent to the students electronically via their TU mail
(password protected) for them to complete. This would save class time, paperwork, manpower to compile
the information for quicker feedback to the faculty.

Printing
Suggestion
Reduce the amount of printing that students are allocated per semester. Students have been printing 100-
page PDF files that professors are posting because of free quota.Even if a student does an average of
five 20-page papers a semester (which is high) plus another 100 pages, that is still only 200 pages.Based
on the statistics, how many students actually use over 50 pc. of the 400-page quota allotted?Labs are
spending great sums on toner and paper each semester to accomodate the free printing allotted to
students.
Filler
Suggestion
How about reducing the number of pages students can print for free from 400 to 100? It would reduce
costs and help with the ?green? initiative.

Recycling
Suggestion
Please get paper recycling on campus! So much paper is wasted and thrown away every day.
