Big turnout expected for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work
Up to 500 children may attend Temple’s first Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on April 24, if all of the employees who responded to last month’s survey actually register their children. Employees who are parents, stepparents, grandparents, aunts or uncles, guardians or godparents expressed interest in enrolling their children in a recent employee survey.
To help with the planning process, Human Resources polled employees during December on their interest in this event. Questions included whether employees would register their children, what types of activities ought to be offered and whether they were interested in helping host the event. Some of the most popular choices for activities were a robotics demonstration, a theater acting workshop, meet the coaches and Hooter the Owl, TECH Center tour and demo, sports activities and movies. Of the 344 respondents, 175 said they would be willing to help out on the day.
For more than 15 years, individuals, families and workplaces have supported Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work as an opportunity to provide an enriching educational experience for girls and boys. The day exposes children to what a parent or mentor in their lives does during the work day in a hands-on and interactive environment. In its first year of hosting the event, Temple will open its doors to girls and boys ages 8 to 14 years old.
The day’s events will be held on Main Campus and will be open to full-time faculty and full- and part-time regular employees from all schools and colleges, administrative departments and campuses. In order to attend, children will have to be registered. Watch for details about the program and registration in coming weeks. Contact Eric Brunner at eric.brunner@temple.edu with questions.

Reminder: Electronic student hiring now effective
The conversion to the new online student hiring system is complete, and paper requisitions (also known as student payroll forms) will no longer be accepted. Each hiring department now has designated staff to initiate postings, online requisitions and upload new student hires into the university’s payroll system. Students can search and apply for positions online through TUPortal from “Student Links” and StudentJobs@Temple.
