Medical and travel security protection gives peace of mind for overseas trips.
Originally available only to students, International SOS support recently was expanded to
Temple staff and faculty. The level of assistance is based on whether the travel is personal or
University business and/or study.
Traveling on University business or studying abroad...
Staff and faculty members who travel on Temple business and students who study abroad
have access to the full portfolio of International SOS services. Temple pays the full cost of
membership for this protection.
The International SOS website consolidates and enhances information from the U.S. State Department and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) into a single, easy-to-use resource. International SOS staff from around the world updates the information several times daily, based on local conditions.
Specific guides are available for 193 countries around the world, from Afghanistan to
Zimbabwe. You get up-to-date detailed information on medical, travel and safety. Learn
about local customs, traffic patterns, hotel and transportation suggestions and dress
guidelines before you travel, so you can plan accordingly.
Assistance is accessible 24/7 everyday of the year online and by phone. When you call, you
speak to a nurse, doctor or security analyst, depending on the situation. Services include
access to a worldwide network of credentialed doctors, clinics and hospitals to help in
emergency medical situations.
All travel...
All staff, faculty and students can also use International SOS’s online country guides and
security updates for personal travel. For access to medical and security assistance for
personal travel, individual memberships in International SOS are available. Temple staff,
faculty and students get a 20 percent premium discount.

FAQs
Where can I get a membership card?
Visit the International SOS website to download and print a membership card.
Does International SOS provide insurance coverage when traveling overseas?
International SOS provides medical, personal and travel security assistance to travelers; it is
not an insurance company.
How does International SOS work?
In the event of an emergency, call one of the emergency phone numbers listed on your
membership card.
International SOS will contact a designated Temple University administrator to get
authorization to provide support. If you are experiencing a medical emergency, assistance may include
initially paying the cost of medical treatment, so that there are no obstacles to getting needed
care. Ultimately, you will be responsible for the medical bills, which can be submitted to your
medical insurance plan for reimbursement.
I am going to be traveling overseas on a personal vacation. Can I get access to full
International SOS services?
Temple employees and students can buy a Global Traveler Membership for personal travel
at a 20 percent discount. The cost is based on the length of your trip and the level of
coverage.
Coverage includes 24-hour medical and travel assistance, benefits for evacuation and
repatriation, and access to the International SOS network of medical providers and
professionals. Details are on the company’s web site.
