Adding or Removing Dependents

You may add or remove dependent to your health plans during the University's annual open enrollment period in June. You are also permitted to add dependents within 31 days of the date of a qualifying life event. The following are considered qualifying life events:

  • You have a newborn child.
  • You legally adopt a child.
  • Your legal marital status changes (marriage, divorce, separation or the death of a spouse).
  • The employment status of your spouse, certified domestic partner or eligible dependent(s) changes.

To add or remove dependents, please download, complete and return an Add or Remove Dependents Form to the Benefits Office. If you elect to add coverage for your spouse, certified domestic partner and/or eligible dependent children, you are required to provide copies of your marriage certificate or certified domestic partner form and birth certificate(s) for your dependent children. Coverage for new dependents will not be effective until documentation is received.
