Update On The Use Of The New I-9 Form
Reminder: The new I-9 forms (Employment Eligibility Verification forms) are effective Friday, April 3rd, 2009. The USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) has revised the Form I-9, (Revision 02/02/09) and the List of Acceptable Documents. All employers, including Temple University, must be begin using the revised I-9 form beginning Friday, April 3, 2009. Failure to do so could expose the University to fines by the U.S. Department Labor and USCIS. The revised form is intended to improve the security of the employment authorization verification process. The biggest difference in the revised Form I-9 is that all documents presented during the verification process must be unexpired.
Additionally, using the new forms prior to April 3, 2009 could also expose the University to fines. Please dispose of all your old I-9 Forms (Revision 06/05/07) on April 3, 2009 and the old List of Acceptable Documents and start using the current documents for all new hires, including part-time and student workers. All authorized signers are to print and begin using the attached documents immediately. If you have any questions regarding this form please contact the HR Generalist that represents your department.
