Programs

The Temple University Honors Program offers two programs that allow students to engage in intellectually stimulating and challenging course work during their undergraduate career. 

HONORS CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

The Honors Certificate Program is mainly for incoming freshman students and interested Temple students or Transfers with fewer than 60 credits and a minimum 3.6 GPA.  The Honors "Cert" Program requires a minimum of eight Temple Honors courses (24 semester hours) for freshman, and six Honors courses (18 semester hours) for transfers or current Temple students.   Honors students who complete a minimum of eight courses (24 credit hours) with a 3.25 GPA in Honors courses and a 3.25 cumulative GPA earn an Honors certificate.  To remain in good standing in the Honors Certificate Program, Honors students must maintain a 3.00 cumulative GPA.

HONORS SCHOLARS PROGRAM

The Honors Scholars Program, designed for students with 60+ credits and a minimum 3.6 GPA, allows students to take upper-level Honors courses in their major as well as upper-level Honors electives. The Honors Scholars Program requires a minimum of six upper-level Honors courses (18 semester hours), including a research methods course and an honors thesis. The focus of the Honors Scholars program is the completion of this thesis or creative project – involving an advisor, an examining committee, and a public presentation of the work (preferably started in junior year and completed early in senior year). Students can earn upper-division honors credit by taking upper-level honors courses in their major, using honors-contracts for significant experiential or service learning courses, taking graduate courses, or establishing an honors independent study.   Completion of these requirements leads to the “Honors Scholar” designation on the Temple transcript. To remain in good standing in the Honors Scholars Program, Honors Scholars must maintain a minimum 3.4 GPA in the major and a cumulative 3.4 GPA.
