Italian Colonialism, Race, Class and Religion in European Expansion Abroad
Eileen received her PhD in History from Columbia University in the spring of 2012. Her work focuses on the history of Italian colonialism in Libya in the early twentieth centuries. She is interested in issues of class, race, and religion in European expansion abroad. She wrote her dissertation about the relationships between Italian officials and Muslim notables in the Sufi order of the Sanusiyya. In the next couple of years, she hopes to incorporate sources from the Ottoman archives in Istanbul to her manuscript as she prepares it for publication.
