James Hilty - (Ph.D., University of Missouri-Columbia) , Professor of History | hilty16@comcast.net

Research and Teaching Interests:
History of the US Presidency; Twentieth Century United States Political History; Quantitative Analysis of Historical Data.

Personal Statement:
My primary interest is U.S. political history for the period since 1928, with particular focus on the Roosevelt, Truman, and Kennedy administrations. I am interested, too, in the historical and analytical literature of American electoral and legislative behavior, including the development and cyclical realignment of the American party systems extending back into the nineteenth century. I find biography and collective biography to be useful vehicles for understanding the workings and distribution of power over the course of American political history.
