Intern, Neighborhood Tourism Project

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania seeks a qualified intern to assist in the archival research and development of two Philadelphia neighborhood tours being developed as part of a heritage tourism planning grant The parameters of this unpaid internship can be tailored to the academic interests and experiential strengths of the applicant. This provides an opportunity for a student to work on a very focused public history project that will have high visibility to educators, heritage tourism professionals, and the general public.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • HSP library research of primary and secondary source material
  • Review and select primary and secondary sources for use
  • Assist in the development of tour narratives and routes
  • Contribute ideas to project development
  • Provides administrative support as required to develop the project including copying, scanning of source material, editing, and filing

Qualifications:

Graduate student in history or related field, library and archival search skills, knowledge about how to find and assess primary source materials, good writing and computer skills. Web design skills a plus. Willingness to assist in all areas of departmental functions as requested. Note: Internship dates are flexible but will need a minimum of 12 weeks commitment. Prefer September 05 start date.
