Pre-Med Health Scholar Application


In order to be considered for the Pre-Med Health Scholar Program, candidates must:

-First Apply to Temple University and to the Temple Honors Program

-Complete and submit this application form and request three (3) letters of recommendation be sent to the address provided.

Please note:

  1. Your application will be considered complete when all materials, including letters of recommendation, have been received.
  2. Deadline for receipt of application and all supporting materials: Monday, January 16, 2012.
  3. You cannot save your material on this form.  Please be sure to prepare your materials before beginning the application.

II.  Background Information

Please provide the following information:

List of Health Care Related Activities. Please list them in order of significance starting with the most important.

2. From your list of activities, please describe one activity, the role you played, and how this activity has influenced your interest in a career in the medical profession. (500 words).

III. Essay


As part of your application for the Temple Pre-Med Health Scholar Program, we would like you to write a short essay (approx. 2 pages) on one of the topics below. We shall weigh what you say and how you say it very carefully in considering your application.

Topic I
Identify one of the pressing health care issues facing the nation or the world today and discuss how you envision your future role as a health care provider helping to address this issue.

Topic II
Access to health care is regarded by some as a right, by others as a privilege. The AMA includes among its “Principles of Medical Ethics,” the admonition that physicians “support access to medical care for all people.” Argue for or against the position that to access health care in the U.S. is a right. Please include in your consideration the impact that your position might have on our society.

Please write or copy and paste your essay in the area below. Be sure that your name is included on the essay.

IV. References


Candidates must provide three letters of recommendation sent to our program office. At least two of those letters should be from teachers, including at least one from a science teacher. We would prefer the third be from someone with whom or for whom you worked in one of your health care related activities. Please provide the names and the affiliation of your references here:

A campus interview in February is required - tentative date Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012. At that time, candidates will also have an opportunity to meet faculty, tour the campus, learn about funding opportunities for undergraduate research, and to meet Honors Program staff as well as current students.
