The Temple-Rx Scholars Program is an early admissions program through which a small number (approximately ten students per year) of exceptional students are granted early provisional acceptance to the six-year Doctor of Pharmacy program of the Temple University School of Pharmacy (TUSP). This program does not replace the usual admissions process for transfer students applying to TUSP either from a Temple college or from another institution.
Interested students should apply to the program in the Fall Term of the senior year of high school at the same time they would file their normal college applications. Applicants should complete the Temple University Undergraduate Admissions application (available by calling 215-204-7200) as well as the Temple-Rx Scholar application which you can print from the Temple Rx-Scholar Application Webpage. Note that two letters of recommendation and a written essay are required parts of the program application. All successful candidates will be required to participate in an interview; the interview is by invitation only. All application materials should be received by the Program Office by January 1, and applicants will be notified of their admission status by March 31 (or shortly thereafter).
The Doctor of Pharmacy program at TUSP is a highly competitive one, so the Temple-Rx Scholars Program will be limited to students with exceptional academic, extracurricular, and character records. Admission decisions will be based on high school academic record, class rank, SAT scores, letters of recommendation, extracurricular work (especially work in the sciences or in the health professions), and a successful interview.
Temple-Rx Scholars will spend two years at the Temple main campus. During that time, they will be required to complete two semesters each of calculus, general chemistry, organic chemistry, general biology and general physics, as well as the Temple Core Curriculum (see the Temple Undergraduate Bulletin for details of the Core Curriculum). During those two years, students are expected to:
Finally, Temple-Rx Scholars must exhibit the motivation and the character qualities necessary for success in pharmacy school and a career in pharmacy. These factors will be reflected in a letter from the pre-pharmacy advisor.
Following the successful completion of the two pre-pharmacy years, students will move to Temple's Health Sciences Campus for the four-year Doctor of Pharmacy degree program.
