CE Alert

As your professional association, we are constantly on the lookout for marketed continuing education workshops that will not count toward your required CE hours if in fact you are audited by the state board. The state board of social workers makes it very clear it is the licensee´s obligation to understand state regulation. We at NASW-PA know how confusing those regulations can be. We also know that there are entities who themselves do not understand the regulations, and therefore, violate the regulation unintentionally.

Recently, NASW-PA was asked about programs that are APPROVED by the Association of Social Work Boards or accredited colleges or universities. PA Regulation 47.36 makes it very clear that programs that are in fact PROVIDED by the Association of Social Work Boards or accredited colleges or universities are acceptable. However, programs APPROVED by such entities will NOT count. If such an entity is not offering the workshop, they have no authority to approve it for credits. Therefore, please be very careful and check who is issuing CE´s for a workshop you plan to attend and on what authority.

We know of several entities that are violating the regulations and are currently marketing to LCSWs and LSWs in PA. We are addressing our concerns directly with these entities, but they have made statements that it is the responsibility of the attendee to ensure the credits will count in their state.

If you have questions or concerns, please call Amy Corwin Sagan at 717.232.4125 to verify the event you are attending will in fact count for licensure renewal. Also, you can check NASW-PA´s website to see events on our training calendar (www.nasw-pa.org) of workshops we have approved. If we approve an event, you can be sure the credits will count!
