DEPARTURES AND ARRIVALSThe Alliance Team has recently (and reluctantly!) accepted the resignations of Rachel Imboden and Jillian Bair from our Team. We wish Rachel all the best as she completes her graduate work and hope that Jillian´s new addition to her family will bring her as much joy as her daughter has! In accordance with our Bylaws, the Alliance has approached several students to fill the three vacant positions we have on our Team: Advocacy Coordinator, Outreach Coordinator and Student Consultant (a previous student resigned and was not replaced). We are happy to announce that Melissa Trainor has accepted the position of Student Consultant. One of Melissa´s duties will be to organize the Alliance mentoring program. If you are a first year student seeking additional support in navigating the graduate program and/or TUH, please contact Melissa at: tub06868@temple.edu. As soon as a final decision is made the Alliance will announce your new Outreach Coordinator and Advocacy Coordinator! CAREER FAIR IIThe second Career Fair will be hosted this year jointly by the Alliance and TUH, combining both vendors and organizations for social workers AND education graduate students! The event will be on Thursday, February 25, from 5:30-7:30pm. Food will be provided by TUH and a Certificate of Attendance will be awarded by the Alliance. If you have a class that evening, please check with your professor to see if s/he has made attending the Career Fair part of your course! THE FESTIVAL OF HOPE:On MARCH 28, 2009, the Mental Health Association of the Capital Region will host The Festival of Hope, a new and unique event which will include the honoring of a champion of mental health, Dr. Denis J. Milke. Central Pennsylvania will also be introduced to actor Joey Pantoliano and his film Canvas. Canvas explores the difficult time families have coping with a family member with mental illness, and looks at the impact on children, spouse, extended family and the community.
TRAINING ON SEXUAL ABUSE:Rejoice! Inc presents Dr. John P. Seasock, Understanding Sexual Abuse throughout Developmental Stage and Treating Trauma in Clients. The training is on Feb. 27, from 8:30am to 3:30pm at 1800 State St, Hbg. Please see attached registration brochure for more information.

You can post your resume or search social work specific jobs in your local area or all over the country. NASW Credentials - A NASW credential can add credibility and notability to your career. We have credentials in many areas of practice and for all levels of education - BSW, MSW, or advanced clinical. More than more initials after your name, this credential proves that you are a dedicated professional and have the experience to serve your clients well. Social work employers look to the NASW credentials as another feather in your cap. NASW Sections - The nine NASW Specialty Practice Sections are designed to keep social workers up-to-date with the latest information related to various areas of practice. The teleconferences, newsletters, e-newsletters, and forums provide a look at current trends, policy issues and other feedback related to specific areas of practice. This is a great resource for your area of practice. NASW is dedicated to providing social workers with the tools and skills they need to advance their careers. All have student rates and some have “recent graduate” rates. The information on practice, legislation affecting social work, online reference and classes are just four reasons to become a member – not to speak of how much more legitimate you look on a resume when you can claim professional memberships! SSA SOCIAL WORK TRIP TO ERFURT, GERMANYLearn About the SSA Social Work Student Trip to Erfurt, Germany in June 2009!! Monday, Feb. 16, 4:30-6:00pm in TUH 205. We will be discussing the June 2009 trip to Erfurt, Germany. The trip will allow interaction with German social work students & faculty, visits to social service agencies and discussion comparing German and American social work interventions. PSCSW LANCASTER EVENTBook Discussion Group -- March 28, 2009 Janneke van Beusekom, LCSW and Cindy Foster-Clark, LCSW will be leading a book discussion group on The Gift of Therapy, by Irvin Yalom. The book consists of 50 brief chapters (many only 2 or 3 pages long) in which Yalom addresses many of the fundamental issues all therapists confront in their work. In writing what he calls "an open letter to a new generation of therapists and their patients," Yalom provides an excellent springboard for discussing therapeutic practices that are at once basic and profound. The presenters will introduce some of the general topics addressed by the book, followed by an invitation to participants to share their reactions to the topics, to ask questions of each other, and/or discuss relevant case examples from their work.
