Course 1: Victimization and Abuse of Older Adults: Legal and Social Work PerspectivesThis course will provide an introduction and in depth analysis of the most frequent forms of elder victimization outlining what is known about the etiology of the three primary forms of mistreatment, e.g., financial exploitation, care giver neglect and abuse (physical, sexual, and emotional). It will also present existing legislation on the topic and review mechanisms for professionals to utilize to assist older clients who are identified as victims of mistreatment and abuse. Ethical issues involved in intervention will also be presented. This course fulfills the 3 hours ethics requirement by the state licensing board. Instructors: Professor Ronald W. This day is designed to be a comprehensive review of the major disease systems impacted upon the elderly and will be an excellent introduction, or refresher, for nurses and social workers. The course will be taught from an interdisciplinary perspective including nursing, law and social work.
