Temple University Harrisburg, Masters of Education graduate Mary Frey, was recently published in The Administrator, February 2010 Edition. Wendy M. Frey is a fifth-grade teacher at the Phineas Davis Elementary School in the York City School District. She has more than 10 years of experience in the district seruing as a subsfitute teacher, fifth grade teacher and also teaching a fourth and fifth grade class split during the 2008-2009 schoo year. ln addition, she served as an emotional support teacher at York County School of Technology for one year.

Mrs. Frey´s artcile called Kids to Careers, discusses "lmproving the odds for severely at risk children to achieve success in school and in their adult lives constantly challenges educators and social workers a like" (Jordan,2006). The alarmingly high drop out rate in the York City School District pointed to the need for a program that would work to help reverse the trend and to encourage the students to become more involved and committed to their education. Finding a method to address this challenge was the motivation for York City´s innovatives school-to-work activities at the elementary level. Participation in the Phineas Davis Elementary Kids´-to-Carerrs program changed the paradigm from which students viewed opportunities for their future by expanding their vision of viable career paths."
