Temple University has been invited to offer the MSW program in the Mansfield, PA area to meet the professional development needs of residents. Temple has been a leader in Pennsylvania in providing an accessible high quality masters level social work education in communities where such opportunities do not exist.

The Temple University MSW program is a rigorous program that will prepare students for advanced levels of practice in social work. The program follows Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation guidelines, placing emphasis on teaching practice methods with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations that affirm people´s strengths, value their diversity, and help them take charge of their lives and meet their needs. The MSW program will build on your knowledge from your undergraduate education and your previous professional experience and challenge you to expand your knowledge base and practice methods.

The cohort design allows the MSW program to be offered at off-campus locations through a variety of instructional methods. The same rigor, requirements and student achievement are expected regardless of program location.

What is unique about the proposed Mansfield, PA area cohort program? The MSW program will be a specifically designed part-time program for the working adult. Classes are offered one evening a week and on seven Saturdays per semester (usually every other Saturday) on the Mansfield University campus and using a variety of teaching methods.

What is a “cohort program”? The students admitted in Summer 2013 Advanced Standing MSW Program will take all of their classes together and progress through the program as a group. If a student does not take the courses as scheduled then she/he may have to come to Harrisburg or another site to complete the program.

Will I be able to take all of my classes in Mansfield, PA? Yes, 100% of the courses in the Advanced Standing (34.5 credit) program will be in Mansfield, PA on the Mansfield University Campus.

Who teaches the courses? Courses are taught by Temple faculty based in Harrisburg and by experienced part-time faculty.

How long will it take to get my MSW? By following the outlined course of study, a part-time Advanced Standing student will receive the MSW in 18 months.

Can I continue to work while enrolled in this MSW program? Yes. Classes meet one evening per week and on seven Saturdays per semester (usually every other Saturday).

Where will I attend classes? Classes will meet on the campus of Mansfield University in Mansfield, PA.

Will I have to do a field internship? Yes, all students complete two semesters of advanced clinical field internship.

May I use my place of employment for my field requirement? Usually yes, the majority of Temple MSW students complete their field requirements at their place of employment. This will depend on the cooperation of your agency, your learning interests and whether your agency can provide you with the appropriate learning opportunities.

Is the program clinically focused? Yes, the Mansfield area program concentration is Clinical Social Work Practice with Individuals, Families, and Small Groups.

Is the MSW program in Mansfield, PA the same program that is offered in Harrisburg and at other campuses? Yes, course content, expectations, and quality will be the same for classes provided in Mansfield, PA as they are at all Temple campuses.
