The Missing Link in Trauma Recovery

This four hour workshop will provide clinicians with an exploration of how cognitive approaches to trauma treatment are missing a vital component for trauma healing-that of spirituality. The interrelationship between physiology, psychology, behavior management and spirituality will be addressed. The role of spiritual healing in trauma treatment will be clarified. Participants will develop an understanding of the importance of integrating client´s spirituality into the healing process, have an opportunity to become more aware of their own spiritual health through an experiential exercise and explore ways to handle difficult spiritual questions that arise in counseling sessions. It is with spirituality, the missing link, that hurting consumers can gain a truer understanding of their reactions, gain self-control and move forward in healing

Objectives:

  • Understand the linked components of physiology, psychology,behavior management and spirituality
  • Define spirituality and explore dynamics associated with severe and or long term trauma
  • Understand the importance of integrating client´s spiritualityinto the healing process
  • Utilize strategies to handle difficult spiritual questions in thecounseling session and avoid potential traps

Presenter: Deborah Hill, LCSW, BCD,

Deborah Hill is a 1994 University of Maryland School of Social Work graduate with a foundation in Clinical Social Work, concentration Families and Children. For nearly twenty years she has worked to provide information and healing to the trauma community. She has co-written comprehensive programs for Understanding Trauma in Foster Care and for In Home workers, and presented multimedia presentations on trauma topics to community, private and governmental organizations. Currently she has completed manuscript entitled Dead Woman Pleading (not currently in release) about her spiritual healing experiences as a trauma therapist and survivor. She is both Nationally Board Certified as a therapist and licensed by the state of PA
