Morning Session Options-9am-12

Option A: Practice Modalities for School Social Workers

Using NASW Standards Trainer: Amy Snyder, LSW Participants will have an opportunity to increase their understanding of the NASW Standards for School Social Work Services. Participants will critically examine case studies to determine an appropriate course of action while taking into consideration the professional standards of practice, school law, administration´s policy and procedures and other relevant regulations.

Option B: Self Care in the Aftermath of Crisis Response

Trainer: Amanda Hummel, LCSW, C-SSWS Participants will discuss the types of work related stress that school personnel encounter, the potential health effects long term stress has on the body and techniques for enhancing one´s own self care strategies

Option C: How to Facilitate Effective Groups in the School

Setting Trainer: Denise Caldwell, LCSW This workshop will provide a brief review of group process as well as the types of groups that might be held in the school environment. Leadership skills and specific therapeutic techniques inherent to facilitating effective groups will be introduced and discussed.

Afternoon Session Options-1-4 pm

Option D: Collaboration: Working Effectively In Schools

Trainer: Amy Snyder, LSW This workshop is designed to introduce school social workers and other school personnel to the knowledge and skills necessary to be able to work collaboratively in the successful provision of school social work services. Development of professional skills for effective advocacy, consultation, and program development will be emphasized.

Option E: Teaching Social Skills to Groups: Age

Appropriate Skills and Techniques Trainer: Amanda Hummel, LCSW, C-SSWS Children often struggle with “meet and greet” skills, feelings identification and utilizing effective coping skills in the elementary school years. Without these basic skills, higher level problem solving skills are problematic in the high school year. This workshop will focus on the basic needs of these children and the types of hands on practical, fun and energetic techniques that can be used to teach and reinforce necessary social skills.

Option F: Fun and Release in Schools Using Play Approaches

Trainer: Denise Caldwell, LCSW This workshop will review a variety of individual and group play therapy techniques that can be utilized in the school setting. Specific examples of play therapy interventions that can benefit students who need support in the areas of self expression, stress release, skill development and addressing loss and trauma issues will be explored.
