Abstinence and Teen Pregnancy, Abstinence and Teen Pregnancy Conference:Integrating Practice, Science and Policy

Abstinence and Teen Pregnancy Conference:
Integrating Practice, Science and Policy

An examination of Policies and Approaches to Reduce Teen Pregnancy

Teen pregnancy rates have recently increased after years of decline. Obtaining resources to combat teen pregnancy and implementing evidence based programs to address this complex issue are two statewide priorities.

This conference is designed to address new programmatic initiatives aimed at youth prevention of early sexual onset and parental responsibility to talk with teens about sex. Information on policy initiatives will be discussed and possible funding opportunities available through governmental resources.

Objectives

  • To provide an overview of current surveillance data on teen pregnancy both nationally and within Pennsylvania;
  • To provide abstinence educators with information on best practice strategies related to: cultural competence issues; sexual abuse; program evaluation, parent and youth communication strategies; and program development issues with schools;
  • Participants will learn about policy issues and funding streams available for abstinence education programs.

Target Audience

Individuals who are interested in learning more about abstinence education initiatives from either a policy, evaluative, or practice perspective.
