MSW Program at Misericordia

Temple University has been invited to offer the MSW program on the campus of Misericordia University to meet the professional development needs of residents in the area. Temple has been a leader in Pennsylvania in providing an accessible high quality masters level social work education in communities where such opportunities do not exist.

The Temple University MSW program is a rigorous program that will prepare students for advanced levels of practice in social work. The program follows Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation guidelines, placing emphasis on teaching practice methods with individuals, families, groups, communities, and organizations that affirm people´s strengths, value their diversity, and help them take charge of their lives and meet their needs. The MSW program will build on your knowledge from undergraduate education and previous professional experience and challenge you to expand your knowledge base and practice methods.

The cohort design program allows the MSW program to be offered at off-campus location through a variety of instructional methods. The same rigor, requirements and student achievement are expected regardless of program location.

The Regular MSW Program at Misericordia University

The Regular Program is available for individuals that have undergraduate degrees other than social work. The 60-credit program is usually completed in two years full-time or three years part-time. Applicants for the Regular Program must have an undergraduate GPA (on a four-point scale) of 3.0 overall and a 3.0 for the combined junior and senior years and a career intent appropriate to social work education.

Advanced Standing MSW Program at Misericordia University

The Advanced Standing Program is available for individuals with a bachelor´s degree in social work from a CSWE accredited undergraduate program within the last five years. The 34.5-credit program is usually completed in 18 months. Advanced Standing applicants must have a minimum GPA (on a four-point scale) of 3.0, a minimum GPA of 3.0 for junior and senior years and a minimum grade of B in each social work course (one exception allowed).

  • The Geriatric Care Manager certificate offered by Misericordia University is a 18-credit graduate-level program. It is designed to enable students to gain the knowledge and skills needed to establish a geriatric care management practice and to maintain the best possible quality of life for the elderly. Participants will learn to professionally assess, coordinate and monitor the health and human services needs of elderly clients and their families, and to understand the impact of the aging process on the individual, the family, the community and health care delivery system. Temple Regular MSW students may enroll in the GCM program at Misericordia University and transfer the courses to Temple to meet the requirements of the MSW degree.
