Research:

Professor Rosan’s research focuses on how metropolitan regions are managed, how communities solve disputes over land and resources, and the role of different types of institutions in mediating these conflicts.  Her dissertation focused on metropolitan planning and growth management in Boston, Denver, and Portland, assessing how metropolitan planning agencies with varying levels of authority were able to influence local decisions regarding infrastructure investment, resource conservation, construction of affordable housing, and density of development.  She is also interested in comparative planning in U.S. and Latin American Cities, for example what happens when globalization pressures in metropolitan regions come into conflict with bottom up demands for more sustainable and participatory regions.
