About Us: Violet Temple Lewis, Co-Founder of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc., was an educator born in Lima, Ohio. She is the founder of Lewis Business College, the only designated historically Black College in Detroit, Michigan. In February of 1943, Violet T. Lewis met with her sister, Elizabeth Garner, and a group of women at Lewis College of Business to discuss the need for an organization that would support and promote opportunities for young women who were striving for a better education. Gamma Phi Delta has undergraduate and graduate chapters throughout the United States and Canada. You may visit the websites of other chapters by clicking here. In 2002, a group of young women met to discuss a need for a business and professional organization at Temple University. In November of 2002, Gamma Xi chapter was established by eleven dynamic women crossing into Gamma Land. The Gamma Xi chapter sponsors many events derived from the originial goals set forth by our founders such as sisterhood, community service and professional development.
