PHILADELPHIA, November 10-Senior Vice President for Government, Community and Public Affairs Kenneth Lawrence, Jr. has announced the appointment of Kristin Dini Hernandez to the position of Director of Federal Relations.

In the newly created position, Dini Hernandez will work to increase federal research funding for university research endeavors and help solidify Temple’s position as a national leader in research and college affordability. Dini Hernandez will be Temple’s first government affairs employee based full time in Washington, DC.

“As Temple’s research enterprise continues to grow and expand in to new fields, having a staff person based on Capitol Hill will allow Temple to increase its presence in Washington and secure more federal research funds,” said Lawrence, “Kristin Dini Hernandez is uniquely positioned as a leader on The Hill and a Temple alumnus to support the life changing work being conducted in our research labs and classrooms.”

Dini Hernandez has spent a decade in Washington serving in the offices of the Pennsylvania Delegation and working to support the Commonwealth. While her work on The Hill began in the office of then-Congressman Toomey, most of her career has been in the Office of Congressman Charles W. Dent where she has served as legislative director since 2011. Congressman Dent is a member of the House Appropriations Committee and Dini Hernandez’s work for him has focused on Defense and Homeland Security. Outside of work, Kristin has had the privilege to serve with her church in Washington, DC on missions teams to Nairobi, Kenya and Accra, Ghana, with a focus in both cases on access to education for school aged students.

“Ten years after graduating from Temple and pursuing a career on Capitol Hill, I count it a unique opportunity to serve the institution that pointed me in the direction of public service" said Dini Hernandez.

Dini Hernadez earned her BA from Temple University in Speech Communication and her MA from the Naval War College in National Security and Strategic Studies. She lives in Arlington, Virginia with her husband.
