  • The department has openings for two new tenure track faculty positions in stable isotope geochemistry and geohazards. Read more about applying.
  • Geology is now the DEPARTMENT OF EARTH AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE. The name change reflects the increasing diversity of the science performed in the Department and does not require changes to the administrative or academic structure. The department continues to offer BS, BA and MS Geology degrees.  We also continue to advise students seeking the BS in Environmental Science.
  • EES graduate student Michael Wyant was selected for a NASA internship this summer.
  • The first winner of the Molnar Award for outstanding undergraduate in geology is Shannon (Star) George. Jessie Smith recently established the Helen Leshcok Molnar and Jeffrey G. Molnar (CST '76) Award in memory of her late mother-in-law and husband. Past student outstanding graduates are listed under awards
  • Dr. John Friel (MA73 and current instructor in the dept) received the ASTM International Award of Merit at the May 2008 Committee Week in Denver, Colorado
  • Graduate student Christian Obasi won honorable mention for his student presentation at the 2008 NE GSA meeting in Buffalo.
  • Dr. Jonathan Nyquist received a promotion to full professor.
