The
Feinstein Center for American Jewish History
The Feinstein
Center, as part of its mandate to create electronic resources for the
study of American Jewish History, has set up, and maintains, a searchable,
electronic Directory of American Jewish Historical Repositories.
These
Repositories may be archives, museums, libraries, synagogues, newspapers,
communal organizations; in short, any source of original material that
may be of value to the student of American Jewish History.
The
purpose of this directory is to provide scholars with leads about potential
locations for research. By simply typing a keyword, (which may be a name,
location, institution, or idea), the directory will return a list of repositories
that contain sources relating to that keyword. Obviously, as the number
of repositories in the database grows, so too will the potential for matches.
Currently, as of April 1999, there are over 200 Repositories listed. Inclusion
in the Directory is free to any organization with resources valuable to
the study of American Jewish History. Use of the Directory is also free.
The Database
is now being updated. Please check back soon. For

There
are now two ways to access the Repositories Database on-line.
You can access the database through a
graphical interface in your browser. A recent version of Netscape
or MS Explorer should work, as long as you have your Java features
turned on in your browser Preferences or Options.
You can also access the database through
a textual interface in your browser. This should work with all versions
of all browsers. Less elegant than the graphical interface above,
and the data may not be as up-to-date as through the graphical interface
above.
