Fire Prevention Equipment
 

Fire prevention equipment selected by the Fire Marshal's Office includes the following extinguishers to protect from the various types of fire hazards: Pressurized water, ABC dry powder, CO2, and halon.

In addition, fire alarm systems, sprinklers, and standpipe systems are also present to control fires. They are located at various places throughout the University buildings.

Maintenance of Fire Prevention Equipment

Once hazards are evaluated and equipment is installed to control them, the equipment must be monitored on a regular basis to make sure it continues to function properly. The following personnel are responsible for maintaining equipment and systems installed to prevent or control fires:

The University Fire Marshal is responsible for choosing an appropriate and adequate system, and maintenance of equipment and systems installed to prevent or control ignition of fires The Fire Marshal's Office follows strict guidelines for maintaining the equipment. All equipment is maintained in accordance with the 1997 BOCA Fire Prevention Code and the appropriate NFPA Standards.
