The Fire Prevention Plan
The Fire Marshal's Role

Here at Temple University, the Fire Marshal is responsible for the following activities:


Develop a written fire prevention plan for regular and after-hours work conditions

Notify the Philadelphia Fire Department and the Vice President for Administration, in the event of a fire affecting the University immediately

Integrate the Fire Prevention Plan with the existing general emergency plan covering the University community

Distribute procedures for reporting a fire, the location of fire exits, and evacuation routes to each employee and student

Conduct drills to acquaint the employees with fire procedures, and judge their effectiveness

Satisfy all local fire codes and regulations as specified 

 

Train designated employees and students in the use of fire extinguishers and the application of medical first-aid techniques

Maintain and distribute a list of key personnel's home phone numbers (to be retained in the employee's home) for emergencies occurring outside of business hours

Decide to remain inside, or evacuate the buildings in the event of a fire

Ensures if necessary that:

All employees and students are notified of total evacuation 

When practical, equipment is placed and locked in storage rooms or desks for protection 

Campus police is contacted, informed of the action taken, and asked to assist in coordinating security protection
