| The Energy Office does not provide any services directly to the Temple University community. Operating issues affecting utility consumption are addressed routinely by maintenance and engineering personnel. However, the Energy Office welcomes questions and suggestions on any subject involving the University's utilization of utilities and especially encourages everyone to immediately report heating and cooling problems. |
|
|
| The Energy Office functions primarily as an auditing and research branch of the Office of Facilities Management. It is charged with measuring and monitoring energy consumption and investigating deviations from normal patterns while continually searching for and proving the value of specific physical improvements. This is distinctly different than the function of other departments within Facilities Management, which must keep everything running smoothly on a day-to-day basis. |
| Nevertheless, an absolutely vital day-to-day function of the Energy Office is processing the more than 570 utility bills Temple receives every month. The Data Coordinator is charged with insuring prompt, accurate payment of these bills so that Temple is never assessed late charges and so that billing errors never go uncorrected. |
| Furthermore, the Energy Office has project management responsibility for all utility conservation measures and certain infrastructure projects. It also has primary responsibility for the readiness of the standby electric generating facility and assumes the lead role in the purchasing of energy commodities. |
| A rapidly expanding function of the Energy Office is insuring the University's compliance with certain air and water regulations such as: annual emissions inventory statements, RACT, Title V and the Storage Tank Spill and Prevention Act just to name a few. Merely because of its size, in terms of air emissions, the University's facilities are subject to the same level of regulation that governs the largest industrial sources of environmental pollution. |
| The Energy Office is also engaged in the competitive procurement of fuel and electricity for the University, Temple Hospital and Temple University Health System facilities. |
