BEURY HALL

Renovations, Design Phase

Estimated Project Cost:  $1,400,000

Project Description:  This expenditure is for the hiring of an architect and engineering firm to design the total renovation of the Beury Hall science building.  These renovations will provide modern day academic and research spaces with enhanced technology that will meet twenty first century standards.  The design will also provide a detailed construction schedule for the multi-year phasing that will coordinate with the academic schedule, in order to limit the disruption to classroom and research spaces.

Justification:  This space has been vacated by the WRTI radio station due to their move into the new Entertainment Community and Education Center (ECEC).  The re-use of this space for the Film/Media Arts Department will provide an unmet academic need for the SCAT and will allow consolidation of faculty and provision of two student functions:  a 20-seat instructional seminar room and an adequate depot for students to borrow film and media equipment for classroom assignments.  Current space for this function is inadequate.
