Dr. Betsy Barber came to Temple University in August of 1989. Her primary responsibility was to lead the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies' efforts in curriculum development in Commercial Recreation and Tourism. Prior to Temple University, Betsy taught at Southern Connecticut State University for two years. She completed her doctoral degree in Instructional Design and Technology from The University of Iowa in 1987.

The changes from the original Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies, to the Department of Sport Management and Leisure Studies, to the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management has consumed a considerable amount of Betsy's time since coming to Temple University. She has served in some capacity of the transition team in all cases. From 1991 until 1998 she held the position of the Graduate Coordinator for the Department. Some of the other committee duties in the university have been on the Faculty Senate for 10 years, with one year as Secretary, EPPC for six years, with one year as Chair. HPERD College Assembly, with one year as Chair. There have been numerous other task force assignments, search committees, and university service related activities, too many to explain.

Betsy describes the many external service commitments as being overwhelming at times, but if she were asked to list the three most important she would list them in the following order: Membership on the Board of Governors for the Philadelphia High Academies, Inc., Hotel, Restaurant, and Tourism Academy, serving as a member for Board of Directors for the Southeast Pennsylvania Girl Scout Council, and serving as the Student Liaison Board member for the Philadelphia Chapter for the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International.

Betsy is currently the Associate Dean of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management, a position she is extremely proud to hold. She is surrounded by the best administrative team a person could hope to have. The school and its goals are coming to fruition. She encourages anyone that would like to know more about our transition to e-mail her, especially alumni. Exciting things are happening at your alma mater, so contact us.

Betsy Leebron Tutelman, Ph.D. is an innovative and entrepreneurial educator, committed to Temple University, and recognized as leader undertaking initiatives to benefit the university environment.
