The Encyclopedia of American Studies Online brings together a wide range of disciplines related to the history and cultures of the United States, from pre-colonial days to the present. It features broad, synthetic articles covering areas such as history, literature, art, photography, film, architecture, urban studies, ethnicity, race, gender, economics, politics, wars, consumer culture, and global America, along with a wide range of more particular subjects and biographies. It is a comprehensive reference work, updated and expanded several times a year, and authored by hundreds of scholars.
Sponsored by the American Studies Association and published by Johns Hopkins University Press, the EAS is available through library subscriptions and as a benefit to members of the American Studies Association.
Based on the four-volume print version (2001), the EAS is edited at Temple University by Miles Orvell, who is assisted by an international editorial board. Other Temple faculty, graduate students, and undergraduates are also involved in its production.
