The Temple English department is committed to providing a variety
of services and programs related to English study. Programs associated
with the English department include:
- The University Writing Program,
dedicated to helping Temple students "write to learn and learn to write"
- The First-Year Writing Program,
which oversees the introductory composition courses in academic
discourse (English 40 & 41) and college writing (English 50
& 51)
- New City Writing,
devoted to interdisciplinary academic and
community-based writing projects
- The Rome Seminar in Art and Culture,
an interdisciplinary
graduate program designed to bring together the disciplines of
aesthetics and cultural studies
- The Poets & Writers Series,
which brings eight distinguished writers (usually four poets
and four fiction writers) to read from and discuss their work every
academic year
- The Graduate Lecture Series,
which funds lectures by distinguished visiting scholars
- The Genre-Mixers,
a series of mixed genre readings by Temple faculty and graduate
students in the Creative Writing program
