Since its release by Potomac Books in November 2005, Professor Joan Mellen's A Farewell to Justice: Jim Garrison, JFK’s Assassination, and The Case That Should Have Changed History has gained wide attention from both critics and readers. The book uses newly disclosed sources to expose the role of Orleans Parish District Attorney Jim Garrison’s role in investigating John F. Kennedy's assassination. Mellen’s readings, at locations including the National Archives and the Free Library of Philadelphia, have been packed with curious and fascinated listeners. Film director Oliver Stone comments, "There aren't enough people like Joan Mellen in the world. Like the subject of her book, Joan has toiled away, driven by nothing more than her own passion for the truth, and emerged with the book you hold in your hands -- a mammoth work which, I believe, will be the definitive biography of Jim Garrison." Author Richard Layman points out that “Joan Mellen is a rare breed-a biographer who writes with the passion of a truth-seeker, the skill of an artisan, and the attention to detail of a well trained scholar-researcher. She digs deep and she cares.” Mellen is scheduled to appear at the Ethical Culture Society in New York and will be featured on C-Span’s coverage of 48 hours of non-fiction books. Joan Mellen is the author of over a dozen books on topics as wide-ranging as Latin American literature, Japanese film, and biographical subjects including Lillian Hellman, Dashiell Hammett, and Kay Boyle.
