The Board of Directors of Temple's General Alumni Association recognized Dennis Lebofsky with the 2006 Stauffer Award, the University's top honor for distinguished faculty service. Professor Lebofsky has been a faculty member in the Temple English department for over forty years and has served as the Director of the First-Year Writing Program since 1985.
The letter notifying Professor Lebofsky of his award notes the "tremendous support from your College of Liberal Arts colleagues who are personally familiar with your contributions to the First-Year Writing Program and your honest, careful, and student-centered approach to its management." The letter goes on to thank Lebofsky on behalf of "all Temple students who have and will benefit from the lasting work you have so expertly and generously provided."
The Stauffer Award was created in 1973 by Joan D. Willson in honor of her late husband, Dr. Herbert M. Stauffer, and his father, Dr. Milton F. Stauffer. It recognizes outstanding faculty contributions to Temple and seeks out those faculty whose service goes beyond the classroom. The Award was presented at the Founder's Celebration on March 25, 2006. It carries a cash prize of $4,000.
