The Philadelphia Cinema & Media Seminar announces talk by Noel Carroll on September 14th
The Philadelphia Cinema and Media Seminar (PCMS) announces its first presentation of the 2006-7 season, a talk by Noel Carroll entitled "On the Ties that Bind." Paul Messarias will provide a response.
The Seminar will take place on Thursday, September 14th, 2006, from 6:30pm to 8pm in Room 307 at the Temple University Center City Campus located at 1515 Market Street; driving directions and public transportation information appear below.
Professor Carroll's talk is an exploration of some of the emotional relations between audiences and the characters in popular fictions. Some relations to be examined are identification, simulation, sympathy, antipathy, and mirror reflexes.
Noel Carroll is Andrew W. Mellon Term Professor in the Humanities at Temple University. His books include The Philosophy of Horror or Paradoxes of the Heart (Routledge, 1990); Interpreting the Moving Image (Routledge, 1998); and A Philosophy of Mass Art (Routledge, 1999).
