FEM of the Spine

Our finite element studies have included attempts to elucidate the pathomechanics of the spine following a long fusion after sectioning the interspinous ligament.

We have also investigated the effects of thread design on bone screw retention.

The teeth on intervertebral cages are designed to prevent cage migration during cyclic loading.

However, poor design may cause stress concentrations leading to endplate failure.
