College of Engineering Renovations Update
The summer of 2008 saw the continuation of construction projects in the College of Engineering Building. If you have visited the college in the past year or so, you saw improvements to create a friendly and inviting environment in the first floor lobby and renovations in room 102. The modifications in room 102 support and accommodate the needs of our senior design teams. Additionally, we have built a new 30 seat seminar room on the third floor and modified space for faculty and staff offices on the third and sixth floors.
In the summer of 2008, room 304 was completely renovated into a state-of-the-art student classroom and laboratory. Room 316 was converted to a state of the art classroom. Two classrooms, one on the fifth and one on the sixth floor were upgraded with technology to support teaching needs. The expansion of smart rooms will continue in the summer of 2009 with the addition of two new smart rooms. Plans are being developed to renovate room 305 matching the renovation of room 304.
The expansion of Dr. Kurosh Darvish’s Biomechanics Laboratory is in progress. Likewise, the machine shop is currently being enlarged. Also, the machine shop space is being enlarged. Phase II and Phase III will follow with the purchasing of new equipment to meet the needs of our students and the building of new teaching/research labs.
As we enter 2009, we will be creating a center for Dr. Rominder Suri on the third floor. The research labs on the 4th and 5th floors will be renovated to support research activities. Office space will be built on the 5th floor to support faculty and research needs.
The number of students and faculty continues to increase at the College of Engineering. Our research portfolio also continues to grow. Consequently, we will continue to maximize the use of the existing spaces in our engineering building.
Check back on occasion for future updates.
