Chair Search, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering

Temple University invites applications and nominations for the position of Chair of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering.

The Chair will be an established scholar who will work with faculty and other constituents to improve the department programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as support faculty research. The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual with proven leadership skills and an established history of excellence in civil engineering research and education, and have an earned Ph.D. in civil engineering or a related discipline.  Special consideration will be given to candidates with a background/vision that matches Temple University’s established areas of research strength.

The Chair will oversee the curriculum, promote externally funded research, and value teaching excellence.  The successful candidate will have leadership experience in curriculum development/review, recruiting and administration.  Current department research and teaching interests are in environmental, geotechnical, structural, transportation and construction.  The department has two undergraduate programs in civil engineering and construction management, as well as two M.S. degree programs in civil engineering and environmental engineering. There is a college-wide Ph.D. in engineering program.  Currently, the department has 14 full time faculty members and they contribute to a total funded research of about $7 million dollars, with two faculty members directing two major research centers in the college.

Non-Tenured Track Faculty: Structural Engineering

Temple University’s College of Engineering is continuing its rapid expansion in its research and education endeavors, including procurement of additional space and a new science, education, and research tower.

In striving for further growth and continued excellence, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering has an immediate opening for a non tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Candidates are expected to possess a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with specialization in structural engineering. Candidate must have a record of excellence in academic and professional achievements in Structural Engineering with credentials appropriate for appointment at the rank desired. Additional requirements are an undergraduate degree in civil engineering and a professional engineering license. The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate engineering mechanics courses and structural courses, such as, steel and concrete design, structural dynamics, earthquake design, numerical methods and computer applications, as well as other civil engineering-related courses.
