PhD Opportunity in Biomechanics of soft Tissue at Temple University- Department of Mechanical Engineering

Position available for PhD studies – Fall 2009

A fully-funded research assistantship is available for a suitable candidate to carry out doctoral studies in the area of soft tissues biomechanics.  We are seeking motivated students with background in biomechanics, solid mechanics and finite element modeling. Preference will be given to students who already have a master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related areas.

The general focus of the study is in the area of mechanical properties of blood vessels under dynamic multiaxial loading, mechanisms of rupture, and development of experimental and computational models to predict the rupture phenomena.

The successful candidate will be part of a team that is currently working on NIH funded research projects. Funding for the successful applicant will include payment of tuition and fees and a stipend for up to 5 years based on the performance. Students will need to submit a graduate studies application to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Temple University in Philadelphia (www.temple.edu).
