Applying to a Graduate Program

We encourage applicants to submit their applications on-line; however, all supporting documents must be submitted by regular mail. Applicants may choose to complete an online or paper application, available at the Graduate School's website All supporting documentation and paper applications must be mailed directly to the College of Engineering to the following address:

Application Package
Applicants must submit the following items to apply for one of the College's graduate programs (including the Ph.D. in Engineering program):

1) Graduate Application Form and application fee.

  • $65.00 for paper applications
  • $60.00 for online applications

2) Academic transcripts/marksheets and documents.

  • Applicants must submit transcripts/marksheets from each post- secondary institution attended.
  • Transcripts/marksheets and certified copies of degree certificates must be  received directly from the post-secondary institution.
  • Applicants who have received their degrees from international post-secondary institutions may choose to have their credentials evaluated by an external credential agency listed on the NACES® website. Applicants should instruct the agency to forward an official report directly to the College of Engineering.
 
3) Three reference letters received directly from the reference writer.

4) Statement of goals.

5) GRE score report.

  • The score report must be received electronically from the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

6) TOEFL or IELTS (academic exam) score report.

  • The TOEFL or IELTS score report must be received electronically from the testing agency.  Paper score reports will not be accepted.

 

International Students
International applicants should refer to the Graduate School's Admission web page to find out about additional application materials that need to be submitted, using an external credential evaluation service, and to review the complete TOEFL and IELTS policy. 

The requirements of Temple University are the same as those specified by World Education Services (WES). International students must visit WES at http://wes.org/required/ to find out what documents are required.

All transcripts, degree certificates, and diploma certificates must be sent sealed directly to the Temple University department or program to which you are applying by one of the Ministry-authorized offices below:

Each office provides different services. Visit their websites for more information.Note that certified copies of transcripts, degree certificates, and diploma certificates from universities are no longer accepted.  Academic records will only be accepted from the organizations specified above.

Application Deadlines

Applications for the MS and PhD programs must be submitted by November 1st for the Spring semester, and August 1st for the Fall semester.  International students must submit the application by August 1st for the Spring semester and December 15th for the Fall semester. Applications may be submitted after the stated deadlines; however, there is no guarantee that they will be processed in time for the desired semester. Applicants interested in financial assistance in the form of a university fellowship or assistantship, should apply and submit all required supporting material by December 15th.

Admission to the PhD Degree Program
Admission to our PhD program is restricted to a limited number of highly qualified individuals with a strong background in the research area.  We strongly recommend that prospective applicants contact the relevant faculty member with their plans for research prior to submitting an applicationLearn about the College of Engineering's research.
