Chair Statement

The mission of the Mechanical Engineering Department is to provide an excellent educational experience in the Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Technology programs. This experience includes an emphasis on the technical, communication, and teamwork skills that graduate engineers need to succeed, in both the workplace and society in general. In order to achieve these goals, the Department places great importance on teaching, research, scholarship, engineering practice and service to the community and the engineering profession.

We are pleased that you are visiting us electronically and hope that you will visit us personally in the near future. The Mechanical Engineering Department offers two undergraduate programs: Mechanical Engineering and Engineering Technology. The mechanical engineering program (BSME) offers a comprehensive theoretical base in mathematics and basic sciences. It places a strong emphasis on student projects, culminating in the senior design capstone sequence. There are four tracks within the Mechanical Engineering program: Alternative/Renewable Energy, Bioengineering, Advanced Materials, and Dynamics Systems & Design. The engineering technology program in the ME Department emphasizes traditional mechanical engineering technology courses as well as business, computer, and electrical engineering courses. The program emphasizes hands-on learning with numerous laboratory classes and projects. Both engineering and technology students may also elect to participate in a paid industrial co-op/internship program.
