Curriculum

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

Program Information
The Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Temple University offers an ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. The program is divided into a well-rounded set of core courses and stimulating electives in the main areas of civil engineering practice, such as construction engineering, structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation engineering, water resources, and environmental engineering. The curriculum provides the students with sufficient flexibility in their education that allows specialization within a particular area of interest, while providing a solid background in all of the main fields in civil engineering, both in the fundamentals and applied design. There are also opportunities to participate in the Cooperative Education program, which allows the student to work and practice as an intern in various civil engineering companies while pursuing his/her degree. In addition, the civil engineering program requires that all students obtain first hand laboratory experience. This ensures students have knowledge of experimental equipment. The laboratory instruction verifies fundamentals learned in teaching courses and applies theoretical as well as analytical course work. All in all, the Civil Engineering program at Temple University effectively prepare graduates for the practice of professional engineering in today’s and future job markets.

To receive a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering the aspirant must successfully satisfy all curricular requirements, which include a minimum of 124 credits. These are distributed between Temple University Core requirements in the humanities and social sciences; the required courses in mathematics, physics, and chemistry; the required courses in structures, transportation, geotechnical, water resources, and environmental engineering; and a set of technical electives chosen by the student.
