Undergraduate Program in Bioengineering

Students in this plan of study can specialize in either bioelectronics or biomechanics/ biomaterials. Students specializing in bioelectronics will complete the general requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering, and students specializing in biomechanics/biomaterials will complete the general requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Students can then choose their undergraduate technical electives from an array of bioengineering courses currently being offered in the College of Engineering. All electives should be chosen in consultation with an academic advisor. Students who plan to apply to medical school after their Bachelor of Science degree should consult their advisor upon arrival at Temple.

BS/MS Plans of Study in Bioengineering
A five year BS/MS in Bioengineering plan of study is available to outstanding students wishing to pursue a graduate degree in bioengineering. In this plan of study students will choose a MS project during the fourth undergraduate year and complete the project during the fifth year of studies. Students may also elect the Bioengineering MS Thesis option, but this may require more than five years of full-time study to complete.

BS Biology/MS Bioengineering
A five year BS Biology/MS Bioengineering plan of study is available for students wishing to pursue an interdisciplinary path between biology and bioengineering. This plan of study prepares undergraduate students conventionally for a BS in Biology but supplements the science and technology courses with a firm foundation of applied engineering courses in mechanics, materials, design, and computer modeling. In this plan of study students will then pursue a graduate degree in bioengineering by choosing a MS project during the fourth undergraduate year and completing the project during the fifth year of studies. Students may also elect the Bioengineering MS Thesis option, but this may require more than five years of full-time study to complete.
