EHRS Course Catalog

The Environmental Health and Radiation Safety Department (EHRS) makes every effort to give you real-time safety information that is applicable to your current position at Temple University. You may need to attend and/or take one or more of the following training sessions, which is dependent upon the type of hazard you’ll be working with.

  • 6-hour Initial Radiation Safety Training has been designed for all Radioactive Materials Authorized Users and all radiation workers. Please contact Ms. Kisha Grady, Training Coordinator, at kgrady@temple.edu to register to attend the next session.

  • Analytical X-Ray Training has been designed for persons that will be working with analytical x-ray machines or other instruments that produce x-rays for research purposes. Please note: any individual who work in a research setting and with a C-arm, please take the X-Ray for Fluoroscopy Non-Clinical Users online course. This training can be taken online via Temple University’s Blackboard system. Please click here for instructions on how to enroll in the online training course.
  • Back Safety Training has been designed for all individuals whose job involve manual material handling. Please contact Ms. Kisha Grady, Training Coordinator, at kgrady@temple.edu to register to attend the next session.

  • Biohazard Waste Training has been designed for any individual who will be generating biological waste. For an expanded definition on biological waste, please click here. This training can be taken online via Temple University’s Blackboard system. Please click here for instructions on how to enroll in the online training course.

  • Bloodborne Pathogens Training has been designed for all individuals who work with pathogenic microorganisms (HIV, Hepatitis B, and/or Hepatitis C) that are present in human blood, human body fluid, or potentially infectious materials (e.g., unfixed tissues or organs, HIV containing cells lines, tissue cultures, lentivirus, and/or experimental animals injected with HIV, Hepatitis B, or Hepatitis C). The initial training must be completed in-person and is only offered during the Initial Safety Training (click here for the next training date). The annual training can be taken online via Temple University’s Blackboard system. Please click here for instructions on how to enroll in the online training course.
  • Chemical Emergency Management (CEMS) Training has been designed for any individual who will manage the electronic chemical inventory system inventory. Please contact Mr. Ryan Kohler, Compliance Administrator, at kohlerr@temple.edu to register to attend the next session.

 

  • Controlled Substances in Research Training has ben designed for any individual that works with Controlled Substances in a research setting. This training can be taken online via Temple University’s Blackboard system. Please click here for instructions on how to enroll in the online training course.

  • Electrical Safety Training has been designed for any individual who will work with electrical machinery. Please contact Ms. Kisha Grady, Training Coordinator, at kgrady@temple.edu to register to attend the next session.

  • Formaldehyde Safety Training has been designed for any individual who is assigned to an area(s) where there is exposure to materials capable of releasing airborne formaldehyde: formaldehyde gas, all mixtures, or solutions composed of greater than 0.1 percent formaldehyde, and materials capable of releasing formaldehyde into the air, under reasonably foreseeable conditions of use, at concentrations reaching or exceeding 0.1 ppm.   • Hazardous Drugs (including chemo agents) Safety Training has been designed for any individual who handles, use, or dispose of hazardous drugs. Please contact Dr. Ana Sanchez at asanch02@temple.edu to register to attend the next session.

  • Initial Safety Training has been designed to provide applicable safety information to any individual working with chemical and/or biological substances. The training covers the following safety modules: Hazard Communication, Basic Radiation Safety (Awareness training only), Chemical Hygiene, Chemical Waste, Security of Hazardous Materials, BioSafety, Ergonomics, Bloodborne Pathogens,and Airborne Pathogens Safety. Please note: individuals who will not work with Bloodborne Pathogens (see description above) are welcome to take this course online via Temple University’s Blackboard system, instead of attending the classroom version.   • Ladder Safety Training has been designed for any individual who will be using a ladder. Please contact Ms. Kisha Grady, Training Coordinator, at kgrady@temple.edu to register to attend the next session.

  • Laser Safety Training has been designed for any individual who will be working with a Class 2, 3a, 3b or 4 Laser. Please contact Dr. Eyas Amr, Senior Laser Safety Officer, at eyas@temple.edu to register to attend the next session.

  • Machine Guarding Training has been designed for any individual who works with mechanical equipment. Please contact Ms. Kisha Grady, Training Coordinator, at kgrady@temple.edu to register to attend the next session.

  • NIH Guidelines Training has been designed for any individual who will be working in a NIH grant laboratory and/or working with recombinant DNA. This training can be taken online via Temple University’s Blackboard system. Please click here for instructions on how to enroll in the online training course.

  • Select Biological Agent Training has been designed for any individual who will be working with an SBA (based on this CDC list). This training can be taken online via Temple University’s Blackboard system. Please click here for instructions on how to enroll in the online training course.

  • Shipping of Dangerous Goods Training has been designed for any individual who handles hazardous materials intended for shipment, who marks or labels packaging, fills packages, accepts packaging for shipping, supervises shipping activities, prepares shipping documentation, or loads trucks intended to transport hazardous materials.   • X-Ray Safety Training (Bone Densitometry, Computer Tomography, Fluoroscopy, Fluoroscopy for Non-Clinical Personnel (e.g., C-arm), Mammography, Radiography) has been designed for any individual who operates X-Ray producing equipment.
