How to Apply - Doctoral Program
Before You Apply: Pre-Application Interview
For TESOL, a pre-application interview with the faculty is recommended. Please contact the TESOL coordinator, Dr. Aneta Pavlenko, to schedule the interview. Applicants to the Language Arts specialization will be contacted for an interview by the faculty after applications are initially reviewed.
Requirements
A Master's degree is a prerequisite for admission to the Ed.D. in CITE program. In addition, candidates must meet the general admission standards of the College of Education and the Graduate School. Multiple criteria are used to determine applicant eligibility, including a baseline undergraduate grade-point average of 3.0. Applicants must take either the Millers Analogies Test (MAT) or Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Non-native speakers of English must also obtain a score of 100 or higher on the TOEFL (iBT) exam.
Deadlines
- The deadline for applications is January 5 for university fellowship consideration and February 1 for all other applications.
- Applications are accepted for the fall term only.
Application Materials
In general, all materials should be received by the application deadline.
A complete application will include:

The statement should also include the following elements: your specific interest in Temple’s program; your research goals; your future career goals; and your academic and research achievements.
- A current professional resume is not required, but may be submitted.
- Applicants to the Language Arts specialization will be contacted for an interview by the faculty after applications are initially reviewed
