Part I: Are You Eligible to Student Teach?

To be eligible to student teach you must meet all the requirements on the following checklist:

  • You have completed all other program course requirements. (University Core/ Gen Ed as well as major).
  • You have no INCOMPLETE grades on your Temple University academic transcript.
  • In order to be able to student teach your overall GPA must be at or above 3.0 OR you must meet Pennsylvania Department of Education Bureau of School Leadership and Teacher Quality GPA Qualifying Praxis Score.
  • Undergraduate students: You have passed all required PAPA/PRAXIS I tests and taken any required PRAXIS II tests in your specialty area(s). (You must provide documentation that you have taken PDE required PRAXIS II tests or registered to take such tests before the start of student teaching.)
  • Graduate students: You must have passed all required PAPA/PRAXIS I and PRAXIS II exams.
  • You have no financial or academic "holds" on your Temple University records.
  • You have submitted your completed application online.
  • An official Temple University transcript may be required/requested.
  • All clearances must be current and submitted as directed to be considered for a placement. Additionally many districts are requiring ACT24 clearance. Once your placement is finalized and we notify you of your confirmed placement, it is your responsibility to send this clearance directly to the school or district where you are placed.

Please note: A comprehensive audit of each student’s record is conducted, confirming whether each student has met all criteria listed above.   Submission of an application and/or registration for Student Teaching and/or notification of a placement should not be interpreted as final approval for Student Teaching.   All students will be notified via email when they have received final approval.

*When you have your fingerprints completed for the Federal Criminal History Record (above) electronically, please request that you receive a hard copy of your fingerprints! You will need to pay two dollars at the time you are fingerprinted. You need to provide the Student Teaching Office with the confirmation number, which will begin with PAE . . .

Copies of clearances documents must be uploaded by July 31, 2013. Clearances can be uploaded online at http://edportal.temple.edu.

If you are applying to a suburban school, you are also required to submit hard copies of your clearance documentation to the Student Teaching Office (150 Ritter Annex). Additionally many districts are requiring ACT24 clearance (once your placement is finalized and we notify you of your confirmed placement, it is your responsibility to send this clearance directly to the school or district where you are placed)

Resume Requirement

As part of your application, you will need to submit a professional resume, which we will send to schools and school districts reviewing your credentials. [Note: does not apply to applicants who are currently employed as a teacher (on-the-job).]

The resume MUST be:

  • Uploaded during your application process (please have it ready in Word or PDF format) .
  • As long as you have not SUBMITTED your application, you may upload new/update versions of your resume (each upload will overwrite the previous version). Once you have submitted your resume, you may not upload another version of your resume.

Once you are certain that you are eligible for student teaching, please read the application instructions carefully and answer all questions completely and in as much detail as necessary to ensure that we have all the information we need to arrange an appropriate placement for you.

DEADLINE for submitting a placement request is Friday, February 22, 2013. Applications received after February 22 MAY be processed at the discretion of the Student Teaching office, but there is no guarantee that a placement will be available.
