Part I: Are You Eligible to Student Teach?

To be eligible to student teach you must meet all the requirements on the following checklist:

  • You have completed all other program course requirements.
  • You have no INCOMPLETE grades on your Temple University academic transcript.
  • Your overall GPA is at or above 3.0. (If not, see your faculty advisor).
  • Elementary education students only - You have completed all required practica (i.e., Ed. 3287, Ed. 3387, & SpEd 3487). This does not apply to graduate students
  • Undergraduate students only - You have successfully completed the Intermediate Performance Assessment. (Contact Ms. Emily Meyers if you have questions: Emily.meyers@temple.edu, 215-204-6026). This does not apply to graduate students.
  • You have passed all required Praxis I tests and taken any required Praxis II tests in your specialty area(s). (You must provide documentation that you have taken PDE required Praxis II tests or registered to take such tests before the start of student teaching.)
  • You have no financial or academic "holds" on your Temple University records.
  • You have submitted a hard-copy of your completed application to:
    • Main Campus: Student Teaching Center (Ritter Hall 335).
    • Ambler Campus: Ms. Sue McCaffrey (267-468-8200) / Ms. Janine Warnas (267-468-8245).

In addition, in order to be assigned to a student teaching placement, you will need to provide documentation that you have:

The Pennsylvania State Police Request for Criminal Records (Act 34) Good for the duration of the student teaching program - Must be renewed if not continuously enrolled. Pennsylvania Access to the Criminal History (PATCH) System $10.00
The Child Abuse History Clearance (Act 151) Good for one calendar year from the date of issue. Must be renewed every year. Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare PDF form (online) $10.00
The Federal Criminal History Record (Act 114) Good for the duration of the student teaching program - Must be renewed if not continuously enrolled. Pennsylvania Department of Education: Instructions for registering. $40.00
P.P.D. Tuberculin Test Must be current with in one year and renewed each year. Student Health Services: 1810 Liacouras Walk, 4th floor or at your primary car physician. $4.00

 

Resume Requirement

As part of your application, you will need to submit a professional resume, which we will send to schools and school districts reviewing your credentials. [Note: does not apply to applicants who are currently employed as a teacher (on-the-job).]

The resume MUST be:

  • Uploaded during your application process (please have it ready) .
  • As long as you have not SUBMITTED your application, you may upload new/update versions of your resume (each upload will overwrite the previous version). Once you have submitted your resume, you may not upload another version of your resume.

Once you are certain that you are eligible for student teaching, please read the application instructions carefully and answer all questions completely and in as much detail as necessary to ensure that we have all the information we need to arrange an appropriate placement for you.
