Master of Education (Ed.M.) - Jamaica Program
The master's program in Educational Leadership prepares professionals for leadership positions in the direction and management of K-12 schools and higher education. The program offers preparation for the roles of principal, business administrator, and other administrative positions in schools, school districts, colleges, and universities. This degree, considered the initial preparation for an administrative career, offers three strands: General Administration, Higher Education Administration, and School Business Management.
Program Requirements:
The program requires successful completion of 30 credit hours and a comprehensive examination (students who maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher may apply for a waiver from the examination). All requirements must be completed within four years of admission. As many as nine credits may be earned at Temple prior to acceptance and applied to the Ed.M. program; up to six credits may be transferred from another institution, provided they were completed with a grade of B or better and within three years of admission.

- ED ADM 5505 – Introduction to Educational Leadership and Supervision (3 s.h.)
- ED ADM 5503 – The Principalship (3 s.h.) or
- ED ADM 8787 – Adm of Higher Educ. (Higher Education majors) (3 s.h.)
- ED ADM 5513 – Supervision (3 s.h.)
- ED 5101 – Research Design in Education (3 s.h.)
- ED ADM 5715 – Instructional Leadership (3 s.h.)
- Elective – (3 s.h.)
Admission Requirements:
Admission is based on a combination of academic and personal factors. The applicant must provide evidence of successful academic performance and aptitude for graduate level study as documented by undergraduate and graduate grade point averages, scores on the Graduate Record Examination or Miller Analogies Test taken within five years, and performance in any applicable courses taken prior to admission. A goal statement and three letters of reference from instructors or supervisors familiar with the applicant's professional and academic work are also required.
Applicants must submit:
- A completed Graduate School Online Application
- A resume
- Official transcripts from all colleges and graduate schools attended
- Official score reports from either the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the Miller Analogies Test Scores must be current within the last 5 years.
- Two letters of recommendation. Letters should be obtained from persons knowledgeable about the applicant's academic or professional work experience.
- A goal statement that outlines professional interests. The Statement of Goals is typically 2-3 pages in length and contains the following: your reason for seeking the degree, with a specific focus on the career to which you aspire; your research interests; and relevant academic and job-related experiences.
