Adult Education and Development Program
Through its Adult Education and Development Program, the Temple University Institute for Schools and Society offers Adult Literacy and General Educational Development classes, and the Move Up: Intensive Adult Basic Education for Welfare Clients Program.
Adult Literacy and GED Program
The Adult Literacy and GED Program offers preparation for taking the GED test. While enrolled in the classes, students will receive instruction in reading, social studies, literature, science, writing, and mathematics. The students enrolled in the daytime program will receive additional instruction in pre-employment training, personal development (life skills), educational enrichment activities, critical thinking, and the use of technology. Students will also receive instruction on how to use a calculator, which the student will be tested on when taking the GED test. Prior to attending classes each registrant is required to take a mandatory placement test in reading, math, and writing, to ensure that you are placed in the correct classes.
The Adult Literacy and GED Program is funded by our state and federal governments and the classes listed above are FREE. The program staff consists of retired, as well as current educators that work hard to prepare each student for the GED test and/or build students’ literacy levels. The program also offers tutoring based upon availability.
To enroll, you must be at least 18 years of age to register in our program. Our classes operate on a traditional academic calendar, and normally start in mid-September and end in mid-June. During the school year, we have several intake periods when we allow interested students and senior citizens to register for classes. At the end of each school year, we have an official graduation for students who have successfully completed the state’s exam.
We offer daytime and evening classes. Below you will find the days and times for classes.
